Tatiana Eldridge, Online MA Education Student Testimonial

Can you talk a little bit about yourself and your background?

My name is Tatiana Eldridge, and I am 25. I currently work in North East Scotland as a Science teacher. I specialise in Chemistry and am new to the teaching profession having only completed my PGDE 6 months before entering this programme during my probation year in teaching.

What prompted you to pursue an online programme with University of Exeter? Specifically, why was online appealing to you?

I knew I wanted to complete a MA Education course to deepen my knowledge of education but preferred a flexible online course so that I could complete it alongside gaining full registration as a teacher. The programme run by the University of Exeter caught my eye due to its style and the variety of modules that were available.

What has the experience been like? Was it what you thought it would be like and has it met your expectations?

I cannot fault my experience throughout this programme. I did not know what to expect when I first applied to this course, but it has been a fantastic experience. Each module was presented in a variety of ways with different activities, which kept it challenging and engaging. The flexibility provided for timelines for each week was ideal for my situation.

If you were giving someone who was considering an online course advice, what would it be?

Self-discipline and continuous engagement are vital. Even if this engagement is simply 30 minutes an evening. I found that completing the weekly activities and using the personal journal to summaries my thoughts each week helped me prepare for the assessments along the way.

Would you recommend the Exeter programme and if so what aspects of the course do you find appealing?

I would highly recommend this course for anyone who works in the education sector and wants to increase their knowledge and confidence.

I have found that this course has allowed me to constructively contribute to discussion at work and has given me the confidence to apply to new roles and take on responsibilities even in the early stages of my career, particularly in leadership.

Is there anything you’d like to add or anything you’d like to talk about that we did not touch on?

Something that I really enjoyed throughout this course was learning within a diverse community. You learn and compare different educational systems, which is really interesting and gives an insight into the possibilities out there. This course reminds you that education is ever changing and can be presented in a variety of forms.
